RESUMO

The study was carried out in the municipality of Yaguajay in theprovince of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, with the objective of identifyingspecies of mollusks present in the fluvial ecosystems, as well as theirdistribution and abundance in each reservoir. The years analyzed werebetween 2005 and 2006, in which two samplings were taken, oneduring the rainy and the other in the dry season. A total of 20reservoirs were used where the presence of river mollusks wasdetermined. For the statistical analysis the software SPSS version 8was utilized to draw 4 x 4 tables of contingency. A total of 10 specieswere identified in the year 2005 and 14 species in 2006.In both cases,Tarebia granifera was the most abundant and distributed , followed byMarisa cornuarietis , with a larger quantity of specimen in year 2006than in 2005. The results obtained verified that in the two yearsstudied, the largest quantity of specimen was found during the rainyperiod. Besides it was demonstrated that there was no significantcorrelation between the presentation of the fish and mollusk speciesand the twenty reservoirs studied. It was made evident that thetemperature, salinity, pH, concentrations of chloride, ammonia, ammonium and nitrate ions were limiting abiotic factors for theexistence of aquatic organisms, especially mollusks(AU)
